This design focuses on brushwork. To create the effect of material, the painter’s stroke has to be as precise as a calligraphy line. It plays with transparency and depth of colour, accentuates the contrast between a raw line and countless complementary variations. Gestures give meaning to the décor. They include the ever-present link with the perfection of nature, a magnificent plumage, a tribal ornament.
